Your first question is is probably “” do you collect closets?” No but I use a closet to home my collection of old dolls. I buy old dolls from the forties and fifties usually with ugly or no clothes and take them home and put them in my closet until the day I have time to make them feel new and special with a brand new outfit.
In my childhood my mother believed if you got something new you must give up something old. A great house keeping idea, but one day you wake up and realize you have nothing at all from your childhood except one Barbie that survived only through a twist of fate. Then like the baby boomers you start to buy back a few little pieces from your past. I would be embarrassed to say how many dolls I have at this point. but lets just say a lot. Most quietly waiting for their chance to become real again.
When I was young we spent a lot of time at Swap Meets, it is how my father earned enough extra money to start several businesses. There was a lady who came every week and just sold dolls. Well not just dolls, but dolls in beautiful handmade dresses. I always told myself that is what I want to do when I grow up. And now I'm living the dream. It is funny how much other people can inspire you without ever being the wiser. This woman truly inspired me.
These dresses were made to be worn by some old Nancy Ann Storybook Dolls I purchased a few years ago. The dolls above I call my mannequins as they are about the same size. The dress designs started out with vintage style patterns that I changed and altered . I hope you enjoy.
I think this one thinks she’s hot stuff in this dress . I hope you enjoy this post and have a great week. With love from The Victorian Rabbit.
