Three level Cupcake Stand

004

Today my friend Tina from work came in and she had brought me a set of three candlesticks, she thought I might be able to use to make another cupcake stand. As soon as I saw them I knew exactly what to do with them. You see I had bought this set of really cool plates at goodwill a couple of years ago with this idea in mind.  The plates actually have faux chocolate candies added into the design. This is a perfect size for my household as you could put just a few on each level and make a great display.003

Memorial Day

Patriotic (109)

I wanted to take a moment to remember the sacrifices that have been made by our veterans and still are being made by by the men and women of our armed services. God Bless you everyone.

Address Sign

003

While shopping at my local Goodwill I came across this wooden plaque, unfinished and still in plastic for a whopping  99 cents. Sold! I took it home, painted it black and added gold metallic trim. I completed it with gold letters.

I got ready to replace the old address sign when nostalgia kicked in. I closed my eyes and began to remember all the things I loved about living at this address.  The years I spent raising kids. The good times and the bad. I thought of the fruit trees I planted and later cut down. The changes I have made.  And I remember the first time I painted a wall. I had never been able to paint before. It felt like freedom. I always hated renting.

I came from a military family. I went in the military, and even married military. In my childhood I went to more schools than I can count. Although I have been lucky enough to travel all over the world. It seems that all I wanted was a place that was mine. After moving in here, I used to tell my kids that the world officially stopped at the front door, and it did.

As I looked at my new sign I realized I wanted to use it as a decoration for my living room. In a quiet interlude I look at that sign and take a moment to count my blessings.

Hair sticks

001

Today I am showing some of my handmade hair sticks. I’ll show a few more pictures and then explain the uniqueness of this project.

003002

What are they made of you might ask? Not chop sticks 003and not dowels.

006

They are made from cuticle sticks from Sallie’s Beauty Supply. They cost about $9.40 for a gross.

I use a pencil sharpener on both ends of each stick to get a double point (making sure I keep each set the same length). You will still need to do a light sanding. I paint the sticks and add beads. Wide hole beads first then follow with smaller hole beads. The glitter work is once again from my new favorite craft supply described in my purse accessories post. The twine is a waxed bead cord. When finished a couple shots of sealer and let dry. I glued my beads in place with super glue.

The reason I don’t use chop sticks are they tend to break uneven and they take too much sanding. Dowels are hard to cut and sharpen. Cuticle sticks are just right. Will try making some more once I get the super glue off my paws. I will also be trying some with charm dangler's. They could be put on a jump ring and the jump ring could be glued between beads still giving them free movement. Another thing I will be trying is making some more plain ones and decorating the sticks with those tiny water decals used for nails,(yep found a big bag I have kept since my pretty nail days). I hope you enjoy this post.  Have a great week, with love from the Victorian Rabbit.
